Relationships and Sleep

Why Sleep Matters for Your Marriage Too

When people think about infant sleep, they usually think about tired babies and tired mums. But the truth is, sleep affects the whole family — including your marriage.

For me, one of the most important changes came when my kids started settling well and sleeping through the night. Suddenly, it wasn’t just about getting a full night’s rest (though that was life-changing in itself). It was about having the confidence to leave them with their grandparents, knowing bedtime would be smooth and everyone would sleep well.

Reconnecting as a Couple

That peace of mind gave us the freedom to go out for dinner, spend time together, or even just enjoy a quiet night away. And those moments were — and still are — so important for our relationship.

Parenthood is beautiful, but it can also take over every part of your identity. When you’re constantly tired or worried about bedtime battles, it’s easy to slip into “mum and dad mode” 24/7 and forget what it feels like to just be you two.

Why This Matters

Sleep isn’t only about the baby — it’s about the whole family. Rested children mean rested parents. Rested parents have more energy, more patience, and more room to nurture their relationship.

How I Can Help

As an infant sleep consultant (and a mum who’s been there), I understand the difference sleep can make — not only for your wellbeing but for your marriage too. If bedtime struggles are standing in the way of family harmony, know that you’re not alone, and gentle, practical support is available.

Because when your child sleeps better, everyone gets the chance to thrive — together.
